Transaid Trucks Arrive In Zambia

The trucks arrived safely in Zambia after a long 50+ day journey from the UK via Southampton.

Transaid and Levy Kamanga, the Director of the ITCT in Zambia where the trucks will operate from, were delighted to receive the trucks and thanked everyone involved for their ongoing support.

The arrival of their first rigid truck means the ITCT will now be able to offer driver training in a new class and it also adds additional resources meaning that more trainees will be able to receive vital practical training experience to equip them with the skill to be safer drivers.

We look forward to receiving images of the trucks in operation.

'Extending' Loyalty

Back in 2002 we first designed a rigid caravan transporter for Anthony Clarke of Quantock Caravan Services.

In 2010, Anthony has returned for a second transporter, to run alongside the previous one.

Anthony says of the old transporter (pictured below on the left) 'we have never had to even put a spanner on it or even change the hydraulic oil'.

The new vehicle (pictured above right) a Scania R114 was supplied to us as a 4x2 chassis cab.

We extended the wheelbase and fitted a single wheeled tag lift axle.

The caravan body was built to the same specification and includes an extending rear floor section, tool lockers and a radio controlled hydraulic winch.

To read the full case study click here.

Once the Engineering Department had completed their part of the job, it was then passed to the Bodyshop for shotblasting, priming and gloss painting in the striking Quantock Caravan Services livery.

We wish Anthony luck with his new truck and look forward to welcoming him back in another 8 years to manufacture his third Britcom caravan transporter!

We Paint Any Type Of Vessel

Autoclaves are specialised pressure and heat vessels used in the manufacture of high temperature moulded items including carbon fibre.

The Autoclave Group approached Britcom as we are one of only a handful of companies who could manage the handling, shotblasting and painting of this type of unit.

This particular unit is 8 metres long, 3.9 metres diameter and weighs approximately 12 tonnes. It is for an end user in the Aerospace industry.

The vessel was shotblasted inside and outside. The inside faces were then painted using an aluminium paint heat resistant to 600 degrees centigrade. The outside was coated with a heavy fill, Epoxy primer followed by a high gloss EHS 2 pack acrylic paint.

The Autoclave Group were delighted with the result and have since placed two further orders.

Since then a 3m autoclave has been completed (see before and after pics below), and we are currently in the process of refurbishing a third autoclave vessel.
